For a parent of special needs children starting in mainstream schools here in Victoria, we endeavor a journey to an ENQ meeting. Education Needs Questionnaire.
Having a child diagnosed with Autism can be one of the hardest things a parent can go through with their child.
To hear that your child is not normal, and needs multiple therapies can open a world of confusion, overwhelment and guilt. For the life and child you had imagined is far out of reach. Or at least that’s how it seems.
December comes quickly every year, and sometimes it can be quite a lot to take in, especially if you are trying to knock off everything off that big gift list.
Sometimes we do forget our Christmas Spirit, because it is the most stressful time of the year for some parents, especially when hunting down the latest and greatest of things.
So I have spent some time putting together lists of Christmas songs, movies and books that will help even the biggest Grinch or Humbug to even get the smallest ounce of Christmas spirit.
It’s a sensitive, yet very controversial topic, that seems to be a non stop story brought up on the facebook wall, by some of my friend and groups; what causes Autism?
For almost a year I have officially been a parent to a diagnosed autistic child, with a second with suspected autism.
Some believe the condition is genetic, their partner has it and all their children have it as well. But then you have many other families who have only one family member with autism.
Ever have one of those days where you want to run away from home, or hide in the bathroom with a never ending bar of chocolate?
I am having more and more days like that.
I tripped over my toddler last night while holding my dinner. A full bowl of my favorite soup, and it went all over my computer keyboard. Needless to say after a flurry of rushing back and forth, trying to keep my kids away while I cleaned it up. My keyboard no longer works.
My 2 boys (ages 2 and 4) have had croup more than 5 times between them and every single time it’s turned everything upside down. My last experience start last Sunday (16th March), and I thought I would share this story to help parents want to know when dealing with it.
Firstly, What is Croup?
Croup is a viral infection that causes an inflammation of the larynx and trachea, they swell and put pressure on the windpipe, which is what causes a very loud wheezing sound when your child breathes. It effects younger children more, because their windpipe is still small. It can last approximately 3-4 days, and the cough can last a few weeks after the inflammation has gone down. Most cases result in going to hospital for immediate assistance.
I have suffered with every kind of period there is, light annoying random spotting, to “Oh My god! I am dying” type bleeding, and one thing that continues to be a huge part of the terrible red wave journey is the types of ways we try to stay clean, fresh and reduce the chances of walking around with stains on our pants.
I am a pad user. I have never been comfortable using a tampon, ever. I was a very happy disposable pad user, until I started having random bleeds from my IUD. I felt like I was wearing pads ALL the time. And I really was, 2 months of non-stop bleeding. Wearing the disposable pads was beginning to get chaffey on my lady bits, and was beginning to add up with the amount of packets I had to buy.
2013 is coming to an end, and I have been reflecting what the year has been like, and what I have learned. This year I have had a lot of challenges as a parent. Learn to have an abundance of patience, and contain my anger. I am a terribly grumpy …
With Christmas coming up, I enjoy taking my boys to go see Santa every year. It’s something I think I did once when I was kid, and I really wish we did it more. I loved talking to him, and I loved the keepsake of the photo. There are lots …
Baby Showers are the gathering to celebrate the upcoming birth of a baby. Many involve playing games, talking about babies, names, eating nice food and opening up gifts.
Michael Jackson enticed “Lost boys” After reading this article by “The Mirror UK” – I am beginning to, no longer be a sit on the fence person when coming to Michael Jackson, and the victims of Neverland. More then 10 kids have come forward over the years, and it’s been a long …
Sleep “Nightmare” Routine For some kids, it’s have a bath, get dressed and brush your teeth, and in to bed. Other kids need a story, maybe a song, a drink, a kiss and a cuddle or maybe even a soft toy. Bedtime in my house is long….. very long. We do …
Naming a child should be a joy. I don’t mind people trying to have unique names for their children. But think of them when you are doing it. They have to live with this name for the rest of their lives. SO please, THINK OF THE CHILDREN! Don’t give them a dumb name.
Well what can be said, we are beginning to trend more in traditional type names. Such as Hannah, Sarah and Charlotte in our girls names.
Charlotte jumped from spot 6 (2011) to no.1 for 2012, knocking Ruby down from 1st spot.
Jack and William yet again switch spots as no.1 and 2. For what I believe to be the 7th year running.
Waiting in Silence My eldest son is about to begin his first term doing Early Intervention. A program where children with special needs are given help to progress in order to go on to things like Mainstream schools. My son has no official diagnosis from a Pediatrician, but the common …
Yesterday I ordered my youngest son’s invitations for his 1st birthday party. When thinking of putting together a birthday party, your thoughts are always, who and how many are coming.
