Baby Bjorn Synergy Review

I purchased a Baby Bjorn Synergy in 2008 when I had a newborn baby, it seemed like a pretty good  choice and it seemed like everyone else had one. We bought the most expensive Baby Bjorn available at the time assuming it would be the best.

It was a miracle! After weeks of having an unsettled baby, we had a magical tool that created instant sleep. We thought we were pretty clever, and would make bets on how far down the stairs of our apartment block would it take for our newborn to be asleep – often he was asleep before we left the building.

But around 8kgs – well under the recommended weight limit of the carrier my back began to ache after just 15 minutes of wearing. It was hard because we had a baby who settled so easily and instantly it was heart breaking to give it up at just 4 months old. I started looking for alternatives, and found out about wraps – my first wrap was a handmade “stretchy wrap” (see *types of baby carriers) which was great, it was a pretty pink fabric and comfortable! I was back to being able to “wear” my baby! Unfortunately by 6 months my baby was nearly 10kgs, so the stretchiness of the carrier it started to sag and bounce. It became more comfortable to carry him on my hip than in the wrap. And carry I did! I became one of those mothers pushing a pram full of stuff while carrying a baby on my hip. He also was on my hip all day at home. It was pretty exhausting with my heavy koala bear baby!

I do wish that carriers like the Ergobaby carrier had have been more prevalent in stores at the time, as I did end up selling my Baby Bjorn when it was just too heavy to carry him anymore and used that money to buy an Ergobaby Sport – however it did the job for a short period of time and it did get me started babywearing!
