Float or Sink

Collect a few items from your yard, or go on a walk. Try to gather some things that will float – such as leaves and feather, a few things that will sink – rocks and a few things that you aren’t sure about, such as tree bark or twigs, which may float or sink depending on how dense they are.

If you can – use a large clear plastic container so your child can look through the side of the container as they drop the objects into the water.

Encourage your child to predict and discuss what will float and sink and why. Also the can experiment with what might splash and what doesn’t.

Discuss the results.
