Christmas Is The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Christmas is my FAVOURITE time of year. My tree has been up for nearly a full month and I’ve had presents tucked away even before the tree went up. And if I’m TOTALLY honest I sing Christmas Carols year round. Don’t hate me. I just love Christmas.

Even though I was raised Christian, I would not longer identify myself as one. So I’m definitely more into n the cultural side Christmas, rather than it being a religious celebration for me. However I will sing along to Away In A Manger and Silent Night like I’m auditioning for The Voice (though, I’m a terrible singer, but I really do put my heart into it).

Mum And Dad Can Hardly Wait For School To Start Again

Honestly I think I look forward to the school holidays just as much, if not more, than my children do. It’s no secret I hate homework, so when last week both of my children announced they had no more homework this year I was thrilled! We’re all suffering a little bit from end-of-year-itis. The kids are tired. I’m tired. We’re all a bit over it. I can’t wait to not worry about school lunches, and school parking. And getting dressed. At all. I love school holidays for those days that we go full sloth and basically don’t even changed until the end of the day – when we have a shower and just out on fresh PJs.

But I know that towards mid-January I’ll start counting down the days for Term One to start!!!

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

I’ve been making a list – and checking it way more than twice – since November. And still I’m not sure if I’ve gotten enough, or too much, or the right things. But even though I fuss and fret about presents in the build up to Christmas day one of my absolute favourite parts of being a parent is that moment when the kid’s discover that “Santa” has been (even though they don’t REALLY believe in him anymore. The idea of it, the game, is still super exciting).

Oh Bring Us A Figgy Pudding

Food. Food, food and more food. (And then drinks, drinks and more drinks) Is the next best part of Christmas day. And the following days trying to eat all the leftovers. And then eating all the Christmas fare we bought on clearance. Though it’s always a struggle trying to balance out the desire to have a full, hearty, roast dinner with all the trimmings when it’s potentially scorching hot outside. (Though I’ve checked the forecast for Melbourne and we’re expecting a pleasant 25 degrees this year – but it’s Melbourne, so that could change at any minute!)

They’ll Be Drinking White Wine In The Sun

As much as I love the food, the drinks, the presents, the weather, the break, the songs – and just everything – about Christmas the most important part of Christmas is friends and family. Even if we don’t necessarily see everyone on Christmas day, it’s definitely the time of year when we make the effort – and have the free time – to catch up with the people we love. And that’s really what Christmas time is all about.

What do you love the most about Christmas?

  1. Normally I hate Christmas.

I start shopping in October as I hate crowds – 3 months of grabbing bits and pieces and hoping I have gotten the right stuff and haven’t forgptten everyone. It can be really hard – remembering ages of kids (lots and lots of kids in my family, dietary needs, skin sensitivities, sizes…)

There’s the whole family negotiation – hubby’s family always has their Christmas at lunch and prefer at the parents and keeping it small, my family also likes theirs at lunch and keeping it small – so I always miss one or the other, or have to travel between, or if I combine it then no one is really happy because it’s not their traditional Christmas…

The stress of wrapping, preparing food, organizing, cleaning…

But I enjoy my kids at Christmas. I enjoy Christmas Eve, seeing the lights on houses, watching Carols on TV, hanging decorations, my kid’s excitement and joy, drinking the expensive champagne you can’t justify most other days with my hubby, the family time, putting cookies out for Santa and carrots for the reindeer…

And I enjoy Christmas morning, watching the kid’s excitement, their present opening…

And eating the food, and drinking the alcohol 😉
