MiaMilly Hister Plus Hipseat Review – Great 6 Position Carrier

MiaMilly Hister Plus is probably my favourite hipseat. It’s simple, easy to use, and has a lot of very useful features. It can be suitable for newborns, with the use of the infant insert which is sold separately, and it has a weight capacity of 20kgs.

Because the MiaMilly Hipster Plus can be used with or without the back panel, it technically has 6 different carry positions.

With the back panel it’s a fully hands-free carrier offer inward facing, forward facing, or a back carry position.

Without the panel, just as a hipseat on it’s own for a supported carry (ie, you cannot take your hands off your baby!) also forward or inward facing on the front, as well as on the hip.

Tightening the straps

One of the main things that I love about the MiaMilly Hipster Plus is that you can tighten the shoulder straps from both sides. Which a little difficult to explain without demonstrating – so check out the video posted about, started around 5 minutes in if you don’t want to watch the whole video.

I’ve used, and taught other people to use, a lot of different carriers. And something that I’ve observed and experienced is that whether it’s more comfortable to adjust from the front or back varies from person to person. It depends on your flexibility, your coordination, your own personal preference whether you find it easier to pull the strap front to back, or back to front.

So you can set up the MiaMilly Hipster Plus to adjust from whichever side works for you. How good is that?

Note For Newborns

The infant insert is actually quite good as far as infant inserts go. You actually clip baby into the insert – so I think for new parents they’re going to feel a little bit more confident with this design compared to other carriers that need an infant insert (ie, the older Ergobaby styles). One downside with this design is that you really do need to lay baby down and then lift the insert into the carrier. Which could be quite challenging to find yourself an appropriate surface when you’re out and about.

I also think for new parents infant inserts are another thing to learn how to use. The baby is new, the carrier is new, the insert is new – it’s a steep learning curve! And personally I think there are better, and easier to use, carriers designed for newborns.

So I feel like suggesting that the MiaMilly Hipster Plus (or any hipseat really) is better for bubs who are around 4-6 months plus. However that is just be my own personal opinion!
