All I Want For Mother’s Day 2017

Activities For Mother’s Day 2017

As Mother’s Day approaches I’ve been looking around trying to come up with some ideas for when my children (or really – my partner) ask me what I want the kids (him) to get me for Mother’s Day 2017.

And I’m really trying not to sound too fussy! I really would be happy with anything just because they gave it to me. But if they’re asking there’s really nothing I want or need. I have more pairs of slippers, dressing gowns, mugs, bath products and scented candles than I need from previous Mother’s Days. There’s not much left in terms of classic Mother’s Day gifts for me.

I just don’t need things.

But what I would appreciate are experiences for Mother’s Day 2017. Some kind of outing or activity. Something special for me to go to relax, unwind, and have some fun.

Movie Tickets

Mother's Day 2017

I don’t even need “Gold Class” tickets since Hoyts have introduced reclining chairs in some of their cinemas! (Something I experienced last week watching Beauty and the Beast). With huge, reclining, comfortable chairs I really don’t need an upgraded ticket ever again! Just a couple of standard Hoyts tickets would do the trick. Heck one would be enough, I’m happy to go alone to the movies and enjoy the peace. I could even have a sneaky nap in one of those chairs.

Wine Tour

Mother's Day 2017

Okay, so I have winery on the brain at the moment as we went on a self-drive wine tour on the weekend. (Stand by for winery reviews!) We had an absolutely fabulous time on the tour, but there are still dozens of wineries all over the Yarra Valley I still desperately want to explore! I’ve already started to look at some public bus tours. One I’m eyeing off is Yarra Valley Winery Tours, because even though it’s a public group tour they do offer some flexibility on which four wineries you’ll visit, so I can try to avoid doubling up on ones I’ve already been to! Plus it includes lunch which is essential for the whole being able to drink wine all day thing.

A Night Off

Mother's Day 2017

I’m actually pretty lucky when it comes to getting a night without children. My mum lives nearby and is happy to have my kids overnight on a fairly regular basis. But the last time my kid’s headed off to grandma’s house the first thing I did was catch up on the cleaning. Then all night I kept waking to small noises expecting to hear my daughter wailing out “Mummmeeeee” down the hallway. If I’m at home I still feel like I’m on duty – even if my kids aren’t actually home. It’s just not the same.

What I need is a big bed I didn’t make, food I don’t have to cook, and a late check out. I’m already contemplating a cheeky night at the Rydges Hotel in Melbourne for Problogger, despite the fact I actually live in Melbourne. Because look! Look at that bed! I could sleep in that bed all by myself…

Though really I’m going to be grateful to anything I get and I’ll gladly just accept the experience of a sleep in and breakfast in bed!

  1. i am still good with the classics 😛 just got myself a new dressing gown, but a new mummy mug and some more pj’s are always appreciated in my house 😛

  2. A night off would be amazing! My bubs couldn’t do it just yet, though 🙁
I would just love some time to have a date with my hubby 🙂

  3. I like your ideas! I’d go with any of them. Hubby buys me lots of experiences for birthday/Christmas/mother day… from massages to day spas to skydiving. ?

  4. Sounds like you’ve been reading the book ‘Stuffocation’? If not you should have a read, it’s all about valuing experiences over things. ?

    1. The kids kept locking it when shut so nobody could get in. Andy brainsnapped and took the whole thing off … about two years ago.
