Top Ten Prams 2016

The Best Pram 2016

*Update – For the latest prams head to Best Prams 2018

It’s been a year since my last Top Ten Prams post, so it’s time to share with you my Top Ten Prams for 2016! This list is getting harder each year because prams seem to be improving beyond expectations year after year, so a pram has to really has to stand out to make it’s way onto this list.

top ten prams

I’ve gone for a little bit more of a structured approach to my list this year and created 10 pram categories and suggested the pram that best fits that need. Let me know if this approach works for you and I’ll keep it in mind for next year!

I hope you enjoy my  top ten prams list, if you have any questions, or if you’re looking for a pram and none of these tickle your fancy, please comment below, I’d love to help you find the pram of your dreams!

Also, as always, I’ve listed the RRP purely to give you a rough idea of the price point, but many of these prams can be purchased for cheaper if you shop around!

So, without further ado here it is. My Top Ten Prams for 2016:

Best Pram For A Small Car – Baby Jogger City Mini Zip RRP – $499

CityMiniZip-Red-560x560

If you’ve read my previous Top Ten Pram lists you’ll already know that I LOVE the Baby Jogger City range. This is the newest edition, the City Mini Zip, it’s even lighter and more compact than the regular City Mini. It’s still has a super simple, fast , one handed fold (like the City Mini). It’s a tough little pram – it has a weight capacity of 25kgs, roomy seat, it’s suitable from birth without any other attachments and has a good sized basket for a pram of it’s size and weight. It’s a perfect pram for families who have a smaller car, but still want a full sized pram. Only downside for me is it doesn’t have a reversible seat.

Pram Weight – 7.3kgs
Weight Capacity – 25kgs
Width – 49cms
Suitable from birth – Yes
Reversible seat – No
Fold with seat attached – Yes
Optional second seat – No
Travel system compatible – Yes

Best Double – Phil and Ted Voyager  RRP $1,298 ($999 as a single)

top ten prams

The Phil and Ted Voyager is quite a lot like the Phil and Ted Promenade, they’ve just made a few small changes. The seats have a higher weight limit (20kgs each), the pram is a little narrower, the style is a little more polished and most importantly – it can be folded with both seats attached! The fold is pretty complicated, but it’s impressively compact for a pram this large with two seats still attached. I love that the seats turn into bassinets, that is my absolute favourite feature about this pram, so it’s perfect for two newborns, two toddlers, or a toddler and newborn, with no need to change the seats. Only drawback is there’s not a lot of basket space when you have the second seat attached.

Pram Weight – 13.3kgs
Weight Capacity – 20kgs
Width – 60 cms
Suitable from birth – Yes
Reversible seat – Yes
Fold with seat attached – Yes, both seats.
Optional second seat – Yes
Travel system compatible – Yes

Best Travel Pram – Quinny Yezz  – RRP $499

yezz

I am really impressed with this little pram, especially how compact, light and easy to fold it is (I even made a short video on it). It would be a great pram for travelling, or for trips in the car – especially if you don’t have a lot of space for luggage. It doesn’t have a basket, but it does have a handy little pocket to pop a few essentials in (perfect place to keep your boarding pass as you wheel around the airport). It comes in a range of fun colours and it really quite an interesting looking design. It’s not suitable for newborns as it doesn’t have a reclining seat.

Pram Weight – 5 kgs
Weight Capacity – 17kgs
Width – 55.8cms
Suitable from birth – No
Reversible seat – No
Collapse with seat attached – Yes
Optional second seat – No
Travel system compatible – No

Best Luxury Pram – Silver Cross Pioneer $1,199

silver cross pioneer

I had the opportunity to do a full product review on the Silver Cross Pioneer a few months ago. This is without doubt a luxury pram. It has beautiful features, like the leatherette stitched handle bar and the liner in the carry cot is the softest I’ve ever felt on any pram. It’s not flashy, but it does come in some beautiful bright colours. I love the ENORMOUS basket – this is the perfect pram for cruising around a shopping centre. It’s simple, stylish and extremely well considered features.

Pram Weight – 10kgs
Weight Capacity – 25kgs
Width – 60cms
Suitable from birth – Yes, with bassinet/carrycot.
Reversible seat – Yes
Collapse with seat attached – Yes (in forward facing position)
Optional second seat – No
Travel system compatible – Yes

Best Pram for a Growing Family – Uppababy Vista RRP $1,649

uppababy

I recently spotted one of these prams cruising around a hilly winery and because I already had it penciled in for this list I stopped the parents to ask them what they thought of their Uppababy Vista. They told me they had an older model, but they very enthusiastically endorsed it; apparently it’s taken them around the world multiple times with two children and they loved the skateboard attachment.

This is a big pram, it’s quite long and wide, but it’s suitable for one, two, or even three children (with the skateboard attachment). With plenty of room in the basket for everything a trio of children could need. It can also fold with both seats attached which is extremely impressive for a pram this size.

Pram Weight – 12.5kgs (with one seat)
Weight Capacity – 23kgs for toddler seats
Width – 67cms
Suitable from birth – Yes, with bassinet/carrycot included.
Reversible seat – Yes
Collapse with seat attached – Yes, with two seats attached, both facing forward.
Optional second seat – Yes.
Travel system compatible – Yes.

Best Head Turning Pram – ICandy Peach 2016 – $1,399

icandy-peach-2016-royal

Maybe I’m just listing this as a “head turner” because I love the look ICandy range – especially the Peach – they always make me turn my head. I nearly bought a much earlier version of this pram back in 2009, but at the time it just didn’t quite pull me over the line – it was a little bit heavy and clunky, but since then, The ICandy Peach has gotten lighter, it has a higher weight limit and the style of the pram is just more refined. I love it as both as single and a double pram.

Pram Weight – 13.2 kgs with a single seat and 15.7 kgs as a double
Weight Capacity – 25 kgs for the main seat.
Width – 60cms
Suitable from birth – Yes, with a carrycot
Reversible seat – Yes
Collapse with seat attached – No
Optional second seat – Yes
Travel system compatible – Yes

Best Value For Money – Redsbaby Move $399

redsbaby

The Redsbaby Move is a reasonably inexpensive pram – and you won’t find it in stores. They sell exclusively online , but they have demostrations in most capital cities if you’d like to have a little try before you buy. The thing that impresses me about this pram is it’s fairly lightweight and compact, it has a 25kgs weight capacity, it’s super simple one handed to fold, suitable from birth without any attachments, adjustable handle height and lots of other features I wouldn’t expect to see all at once in a pram at that price.

Pram Weight – 9.5kgs
Weight Capacity – 25kgs
Width – 57cms
Suitable from birth – Yes
Reversible seat – No
Collapse with seat attached – Yes
Optional second seat – No
Travel system compatible – No

Best All Terrain Pram – Jane Crosswalk – $799

Jane-Crosswalk-Carrycot

When I first started searching for prams for this category, I automatically assumed my top pick for this spot would be something from the Mountain Buggy range. Then I went to the Essential Baby Show and this pram really caught me by surprise. The main reason I’m putting this forward over the Mountain Buggy range as my favourite all terrain pram is that it has the reversible seat. If you’re going to be going on a long hike with your baby, toddler or older it would be nice to be able to chat with them along the way!

The one downside with the pram is the basket is very very small – however they do include a matching nappy bag to hang off the handle to try to make amends.

Pram Weight – 12.5kgs
Width – 60cms
Suitable from birth – Yes
Reversible seat – Yes
Collapse with seat attached – Yes
Optional second seat – No
Travel system compatible – No

Best Running Pram – Bob Ironman – RRP $549

bob-ironman-stroller-main

BOB Ironman is a seriously sporty running pram – it’s not an everyday pram, it’s a dedicated, hardcore running pram. It’s has very large, smooth tyres for running. It has a handbrake similar to one on a bike to give you better speed control running down hill. It has an adjustable shock absorber so you can adapt the setting to the weight of your child. The front wheel is fixed, so it doesn’t swivel, so it’s not maneuverable in small spaces – like shopping centres – but the fixed wheel is for smooth running. The fold is quick and easy, but it’s still pretty bulky when folded down.

Pram Weight – 10.5kgs
Weight Capacity – 25kgs
Width – 63.5cms
Suitable from birth – Yes
Reversible seat – No
Collapse with seat attached – Yes
Optional second seat – No
Travel system compatible – Yes

Best Umbrella Stroller – UPPAbaby G-Luxe – RRP $549

uppababy-g-luxe

Umbrella strollers are great for people who don’t need a big pram, they’re good for travel, small cars, city living, and those days where you’re getting in and out of the car a dozen times. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a reasonably good umbrella stroller, but if I’m going to name a “best” one, then I’m pretty keen on the Uppababy G-luxe for it’s whopping weight capacity of 25kgs, it has an enormous pop out canopy, good sized basket (for an umbrella stroller) one handed recline on the seat, an adjustable foot rest and has a standing fold – which I’ve not seen in an umbrella stroller before!

Pram Weight – 6.8kgs
Weight Capacity – 25 kgs
Width – 50 cms
Suitable from birth – Yes
Reversible seat – No
Collapse with seat attached – Yes
Optional second seat – No
Travel system compatible – No

I hope that helps make your pram purchasing a little easier. For more pram suggestions see:
