NEW Joolz Geo3 Duo – How to Get What You REALLY Need!

Joolz Geo3 is launching in Australia February 2023 and one of the great things about the Joolz Geo3 Duo configuratins is you only buy what you plan to use – but with so many adapers and extra bits and pieces it’s also super confusing! Especially because the new Joolz Geo3 seat/cot format is very different to the original Joolz Geo and Geo2.

Because this is all very new I’ll be putting together a series of videos and posts over the coming weeks. Including a Joolz Geo2 VS Joolz Geo3 comparison as well as a full detailed review over the coming weeks! Feel free to comment on this post so I can notify you when that has been posted.

But for now I really wanted to cover the burning question I’m sure everyone will have: What do I actually need to buy and what will it cost me?!

Please note the prices below are the RRP which will change as the market value is established.

Joolz Geo3 – What’s in the Box

Really important to highlight that the Geo3 DOES NOT come with a complete seat and complete cot, but rather a cot base, seat base and ONE sunhood and ONE bumper bar. Similar to a Bugaboo Donkey or ICandy Peach.

The below configurations are what you would need to ADD to your Joolz Geo3 to convert to a double.

Noting that these are in order of lowest cost or least number of purchases, rather than what I think is going to be most popular or practical.

Option 1. Upper Seat + Lower Cot (with no Extra Sun Hood)

You Will Need:

  • Joolz Geo3 Lower Duo Adapter – RRP $90

While not ideal for everyone this would be a good solution if you have a bigger age gap, you’re not going to need a double for more than 6 months AND you’re not even sure you’re going to be using the double every day. It’s mostly just for zipping around the shopping centre or a big day out when you just need to get from A to B, and you want your bigger kid to have the option to rest their feet.

Pros: ALL you need to add on is a lower adapter (RRP $90AUD and you’re done)

The Seat fits inside the basket so you can have it tucked away until it’s needed.

Cons: Only one possible configuration (Seat Upper/Cot Lower) with no option to switch positions. And your big kid up the top will be in full sun if you’re outside. You could pop a big sunhat on them, but that’s not going to be super practical if they’re laying back for a nap in the stroller.

Option 2. Upper Cot + Lower Seat (with no Extra Sun Hood)

You Will Need:

  • Joolz Geo3 Lower Duo Adapter – RRP $90
  • Joolz Geo3 Upper Duo Adapter – RRP $70

NOTE: The Upper Duo Adapter is for the Cot ONLY – the seat will not attach to the Upper Duo Adapters.

The optional Upper Cot/Lower seat scenario isn’t going to be for everyone (second hood or not), but it’s a nice option that wasn’t available on the original Joolz Geo or Geo 2.

It’s a bit squashed for the kid at the bottom, and keep in mind the lower seat position only has a weight capacity of 15kgs compared to 22kgs when positioned at the top.

Pros: It’s nice to have options – with the Upper Cot adapter you can now choose to switch the

Cons: Aside from being a tight fit, the seat in the lower position can’t be fully reclined. Though it doeshave a semi-recline for naps.

Option 3. Upper Seat + Lower Cot (With Extra Sunhood)

You Will Need:

  • Joolz Geo3 Lower Duo Adapter – RRP $90
  • Joolz Geo3 Extra Sun Hood – RRP $150

OPTIONAL: Joolz Geo3 Extra Bumper Bar

This will be more popular than option 1 and 2 and I’m sure this is how Joolz had intended the Joolz Geo3 to be used – but I just wanted to let you know the above options are POSSIBLE even if they’re not going to suit everyone.

Pros: Not a huge investment to convert to double if you’re not sure how long you’re planning to use a double stroller.

Cons: Limit configuration and not able to continue using once baby outgrows the cot (though you can always add on an Extra Seat in the future if you feel you need it.)

Options 4. Upper Cot + Lower Seat (With Extra Sun Hood)

Joolz Geo3 duo configurations

You Will Need:

  • Joolz Geo3 Lower Duo Adapter – RRP $90
  • Joolz Geo3 Upper Duo Adapter – RRP $70
  • Joolz Geo3 Extra Sun Hood – RRP $150

OPTIONAL: Joolz Geo3 Extra Bumper Bar

This configuration is the main reason I wanted to show the Joolz Geo3 without a hood on the seat, because personally if I was wanting to use the seat lower-cot upper configuration I would not get an Extra Hood because it’s really useless – except if the seat is reclined. However the cot does give a bit of shade and you could probably hang something over the back of the handlebar if you want to shelter them for a nap.

Pros: You’re ready with two Sunhoods Hoods if you do think there’s a chance you’ll get the extra seat later on (so you may as well buy the extra hood upfront)

Cons: The hood can’t be extended properly in the lower seat position.

Option 5. Upper Seat + Lower Seat

You Will Need:

  • Joolz Geo3 Lower Duo Adapter – RRP $90
  • Joolz Geo3 Extra Sun Hood – RRP $150
  • Joolz Geo3 Extra Seat – RRP $450

OPTIONAL: Joolz Geo3 Extra Bumper Bar

If you have a closer age gap and you’re absolutely certain you’ll be needing a double pram for more than 6 months you really should be buying everything you’re going to need in one transaction as most retailers will offer bundle deals if you’re adding on the whole kit and caboodle.

Pros: You have everything you need and no need to go back for additional purchases.

Cons: It is a big investment upfront so you want to be certain you’ll be using all the components.

Joolz Geo3 Capsule (Car Seat) Configurations

Joolz Geo3 duo configuration capsule

My favourite lifecycle for the Original Joolz Geo and Joolz Geo 2 for the first 6 months is using a capsule for baby number 1 with upper capsule adapters then when baby number 2 comes along not having to purchase the expandable set right away and just adding on lower capsule adapters to assemble with the upper seat.

However a common “hack” for parents using this scenario is purchasing an extra seat frame as a spare part for days they are just using their stroller as a single with their newborn so they can easily switch back and forth between the seat and cot by just moving the sunhood and bumper bar.

Essentially building themselves a  “cot base” and “seat base” like the new Joolz Geo3!

Option 6: Upper Seat + Lower Capsule

You Will Need:

  • Joolz Geo3 Lower Capsule Adapter
  • Compatible Capsule (TBC)

Option 7: Upper Capsule + Lower Seat

You Will Need:

  • Joolz Geo3 Lower Seat Adapter
  • Joolz Geo3 Upper Capsule Adapter
  • Compatible Capsule (TBC)

NOTE: of course you can also combine these with any of the other seat/cot options. Just be very mindful that the Seat/Cot Adapters are not the same as the Capsule adapters, so you would need to purchase both types of adapters if you’re wanting to change between capsule/seat/cot.
